Located on the Nevada-Arizona border and just minutes from southwest Utah, Mesquite is a growing community of churches, casinos, retailers and resorts.

The city began as a Mormon outpost on the Virgin River. In the early 20th century, Mesquite became a popular stop for tourists traveling local roads and highways. Motels and campgrounds catered to the travelers, whose numbers grew with the completion of Interstate 15 in the 1970s. By the early 1980s, residents decided to incorporate, and the town officially became a city in 1984.

Today, Mesquite is still a popular tourist stop, although its year-round population is growing. New resorts and casinos offer dining, golfing and spa packages — often at lower prices than neighboring Las Vegas. These bargain rates and its scenic location make Mesquite a popular getaway for residents of the tri-state area, as well as for "snowbirds" seeking a respite from cold Midwestern winters.
